Sausage Bread & Negroni
Serves: Eight | Prep: 15 min | Cook: 30 min
Ingredients:
Sausage Bread:
1 boule Pizza Dough
1 Tbsp olive oil
1 lb savory flavored sausage meat, casing removed
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, minced
1 tsp dried parsley
1 tsp dried oregano
1/2 cup roasted red peppers
1/2 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
1 egg
1 Tbsp sesame seeds
1 cup Marinara Sauce
Negroni:
1 oz gin
1 oz sweet vermouth
1 oz Campari
1 orange wedge
Garnish:
Orange wedge
Directions:
Sausage Bread:
Preheat oven 400F/200C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
To a skillet on medium heat add olive oil, sausage and onion, cook 3-5 minutes. Add garlic, parsley and oregano, cook for another 3-5 minutes, until sausage meat is brown and onions are tender. Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
Roll out pizza dough on the baking paper that has been lightly floured. Roll into a 14X12 rectangle.
Place the slightly cooled sausage mixture onto the rolled dough leaving a 1-1 ½ inch border around the edges. Lay on the roasted red pepper and top with the cheeses.
Roll the dough into a log, using the baking paper, roll the dough away from you, seal the edges.
Make an egg wash by beating 1 egg with 1 Tbsp water. Brush the dough with the egg wash. Cut a few slits into the top of the dough and sprinkle with sesame seeds. Transfer to the baking tray, bake 20-25 minutes, until golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool slightly before slicing.
Negroni:
In a glass filled with ice pour in gin, vermouth and Campari. Squeeze in the juice of one orange wedge, stir and garnish.
