Cutting Mango
Easy way to cut mango:
Tips:
Mangoes have a large, flat pit in the center. The fruit is slightly oval with a seam running from top to bottom. The pit runs parallel to this seam.
Choose a ripe mango for easier cutting and better taste. Ripe mangoes will give slightly when gently squeezed.
Be careful while handling the knife, as the mango can be slippery.
Method:
Stand the mango on its end, with the stem side up. Place the knife about 1/4-inch from the center (the seam) and cut downwards, following the curve of the pit. This will give you one cheek. Repeat on the other side to get the second cheek.
Take one mango cheek and hold it in your hand, skin side down. With the knife, score the flesh in a grid pattern, making sure not to cut through the skin.
Hold the edges of the scored mango cheek and push the skin side up, turning the cheek inside out. The cubes of mango flesh should pop up. Cut the mango cubes off or use a spoon to scoop them out. With the pit still remaining, cut off the thinner sides around the pit. Cut into cubes.
