Buttermilk Biscuits

Serves: Makes 5-6 biscuits | Prep: 15 min | Cook: 12 min

Ingredients:

Buttermilk Biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 Tbsp baking powder
1 Tbsp sugar
1 tsp salt
6 Tbsp cold butter, cubed
3/4 cup buttermilk
2 Tbsp butter, melted

Directions:
Preheat oven 425F/190C. Line a baking tray with baking paper.

In a bowl mix flour, powder, sugar and salt together. Add cold butter and rub with your fingertips until the mixture comes together into coarse crumbs. Add milk, stir with a wooden spoon until combined.

Transfer dough onto a well-floured work surface. Use your hands to gently work the dough together. Once together, fold in half over itself and use your hands to gently flatten layers together. Rotate the dough 90 degrees and fold in half again. Repeat this process 5 more times.

Using your hands, not a rolling pin, flatten dough 1 inch thick. Lightly flour a biscuit cutter before pressing straight down into the dough. Place cut dough onto the prepared tray. Gently rework remaining dough to get more biscuits. Bake 12-14 minutes, until tops are lightly golden brown.

Remove from oven and brush with melted butter.
