Buttermilk Bread

Serves: 1 loaf | Prep: 1 hr, 15 min | Cook: 40 min

Ingredients:

Buttermilk Bread:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 package fast acting yeast
3 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
2 Tbsp butter
1 cup buttermilk
1 egg

Directions:
Grease or line a loaf tin.

In a mixer with a paddle attachment mix 1 cup of flour, sugar, yeast, and salt together.

Heat buttermilk and butter in a saucepan over medium low heat, just until the butter melts. Watching carefully as it can curdle, some curdling is ok. Remove from heat. Add milk mixture to the flour mixture. Combine well. Add egg and mix 1 minute. Add the remaining 2 cups of flour, starting at low speed and gradually increasing. Mix, 5 minutes. Transfer to a lightly floured surface and with floured hands knead dough, 1-2 minutes. Place into the prepared tin, spreading the dough into the corners of the tin. Cover with a clean towel, place in a warm spot and let rise, about 1 hour, until the dough rises above the top edge of the tin.

Preheat oven 375F/190C. Bake, 35-40 min, until firm and lightly browned. Let bread cool slightly before slicing.
